A skyline shows where a city has built upward. It does not, by itself, explain how well that city houses its residents. This comparison separates a count of completed tall buildings from questions about affordability, empty offices, or the height of a single landmark.
A 2023 report about New York office vacancies and the Citizens Budget Commission’s housing analysis address different questions from a global building count. Neither establishes why every city builds towers.
The table records the Skyscraper Center city ranking checked on November 1, 2026. It counts completed buildings at least 150 meters tall, not every building described as a high-rise. The 200m+ and 300m+ columns are overlapping subsets of 150m+, so they must not be added to produce a total.
